Explaining chronic illness
+ UX/UI + ICON DESIGN + ANIMATION
Chronic illness is everywhere—133 million Americans have it, or over 40% of our population.* In 2003, Christine Miserando wrote a viral blog post that became a rallying cry for those with chronic illness, pain, and disability. It gave a simple and playful allegory for the daily lives of "spoonies."
I updated the visual language accompanying Miserando's story by developing a series of icons and creating a narrative animation. It is accompanied by an iPad game for children 8–10 years old called "The Spoon Game." I developed personas, thought through user journeys, created a user flow, and made both low and high fidelity wireframes before creating a prototype.
